Plan DUIN approved by municipal council

On Thursday 22 December, the municipal council meeting of Almere approved the DUIN plan, relating to an area development measuring 118 hectare. A large majority agreed with the plans presented.

DUIN
A number of years ago, the municipality of Almere held a competition for an area of eight kilometres in length, nestling in the axil of the Hollandse Brug. A location that is to be home to a distinctive living environment. Amvest came up with a concept for the creation of a completely new landscape, fitting in with Dutch civil traditions. When the time comes, living will be 'a guest' in that landscape, with dunes 10 metres high and nearly 32 hectare of forest.

Start
At the start of 2012 the sand will be shifted, which will create three wide rows of dunes. Homes will be built amid and on top of those dunes, which will also play a role in the water regime of the area. The entire area will be developed in stages, offering the opportunity to move along with the market. A collaboration was set up with the municipality of Almere, creating a concession-type of working.

Programme
The DUIN plan comprises approximately 3,000 homes in both the rented and owner-occupied housing sector, and ground-level and stacked houses. The plan also includes bars and restaurants, shops, offices, leisure facilities and social facilities.
