CruquiusAmsterdam

Cruquius is an out of date inner city port and business park and it is the last of the Amsterdam islands that has still to be redeveloped. The area’s borders are defined by the Entrepothaven and the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. The objective is to start redevelopment in 2013.

Central

The transformation of Cruquius provides a chance to realise a new piece of Amsterdam and the area has plenty of possibilities for successful redevelopment. It could become a lively area for living, working, and recreation and it has a central position between IJburg, Zeeburgereiland, the Oostelijke Eilanden, the old centre and the Indonesian neighbourhood.

Character

Most of the neighbourhoods around Cruquius are residential and Cruquius can supplement them with a dynamic mix of functions. The former port area still retains its maritime character with housing on and around the water, a marina and a sailing school. The redevelopment of this area will attract new residents and extra employment to the Eastern part of the city. This will reinforce the varied character of this area of the city as well as its social and economic vitality.
