Sustainability was an important consideration in developing the area. For Amvest this means more than reducing CO2 emissions; the properties are energy efficient and are heated and cooled by thermal energy storage systems. The houses and apartments collect rainwater which is then piped to De Wielewaal, a neighbouring country estate that is in danger of drying out. Demolition materials are reused and the greenery on site was saved and supplemented with new planting where necessary.
The area’s history played an important role in the development of the site. Experience has shown that residents feel at home more quickly if there are traces of the past in the neighbourhood. The site has a lot of history and that remains clearly visible. Two characteristic factory buildings remain. The company of furniture designer Piet Hein Eek is located here and in the beautiful porter's lodge other commercial functions will find their place. Future residents play an important role in the development of the area and the housing. Customers contribute ideas via an online community, residence tests and focus groups.
The project is going according to plan thanks to Amvest’s decisiveness and financial strength. Sales started in the autumn of 2010 while renting started a little later. The properties will be handed over between 2013 and 2017.
